A project initiated in Berlin with concerts in Wroclaw 2016
In 1989, citizens in Central Europe tore down the Iron Curtain and came together in a highly symbolic gathering in Krzyżowa, a town roughly 60 kilometres southwest of Wroclaw. People from the Polish city of Wroclaw as well as East and West Berliners were among those gathering on that day, and the ultimate result of their efforts was a meeting centre where young people from parts of Europe that had been separated for decades could come together to exchange experiences and engage in common activities that foster a consciousness for European diversity and a lasting sense of togetherness.
After a highly successful premiere in 2015, the event known as Krzyżowa Music will take place in 2016 for the second year in a row. In August 2016, masters of the international music scene and extraordinarily talented young musicians from all over the world will once again come to Krzyżowa to present concerts in the region as well as at festivals throughout Poland and Germany. In Wroclaw, Krzyżowa Music musicians will perform on 21 August in the the Oratorium Marianum at Wroclaw University and on 28 August at the new National Music Forum (Narodowe Forum Muzyki).
The project is being carried out under the auspices of the Freya von Moltke Foundation, the Kreisau-Initiative e.V. and the Krzyżowa Foundation for European Understanding. The events enjoy the patronage of Germany’s Foreign Minister Steinmeier and Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Waszczykowski. The project’s artistic director is the Berlin-based violinist Viviane Hagner. Krzyżowa Music is recommended as an outstanding cultural event by the music curator of the Wroclaw European City of Culture 2016.
